This is my first thread on STM Forums.
I’m about to run a KGB Deals UK campaign on PPV using an angle suggested by Stack in one of his excellent posts on group buying deals on Facebook and POF.
Las Vegas is my angle – here are a couple of landing pages I’m going to split-test on Lead Impact:
I will be scraping URL’s on AffExpert’s tool using las vegas search terms, as well as party and clubbing keywords.
I will be updating daily on how this goes. To start with if you have any feedback on my landers that would be awesome!
Like they said in the other thread, you should consider adding sound or music to the landers. If you’re going with the trip to vegas theme, you could use sound effects from slot machines, or ambient sounds from a casino floor (think: clips from movies where people walk through a casino and you hear the machines, bells, laughter and talking, etc. – you can probably grab some of these sounds from older casino video games, if you had any. :P). Alternately you could use music. Either way, when people are browsing and they hear something that shouldn’t be there they tend to go look for what it is – that at least gets eyes on your lander.
If you don’t mind using the bait and switch you could do what other people have said and use images from the first Hangover movie – and the benefit of that is for your sound you can use clips from the film. Use ones that are really well known like the "Is this the real Caesar’s palace?" bit. That’s sure to get people’s attention.
I’ll be honest, I don’t do much PPV and I’m not the most experienced in making PPV LPs, but my first instinct is to make that button bigger. Like, large. The easier it is for the user to figure out what you want them to do the more likely they are to do it.
Good luck with the campaign! I’ll definitely be following along as you post updates.
Yep , lps look good.
Sound and a bigger CTA are also my only suggestions.
Only problem I see is getting enough targeted traffic for vegas trips.
Keep us updated how it performs.
Might wanna change your headline to say up to I think thats required on KGB, not sure
I like the landing page designs but I am no sold on the images. I think Vegas and I think of "Hangover" the movie pics ie.. Missing tooth guy or the baby in the baby carrier (Halloween costume pics would work) or Something revolving around a club for bachelorette parties or bachelor parties. Drunk guy on the floor and chicks are college scene material in my mind.
Just my two pennies and not peeing in anyone’s Cheerios!
Thanks everyone for your feedback.
My update for today is that I’m still waiting on Lead Impact to approve my ads.
However, I’m doing up one Hangover-style lander to test with the other two.
I will post that up shortly.
OK, we’re live.
Today’s Update – 223 views on Lead Impact, 11 clickthroughs onto the KGB offer and 0 conversions.
That’s really pretty bad. Any ideas on how I can optimize this?
I’m adding sounds tonight and changing images. Any further advise on how I can make this work would be awesome.
Which PPV Network are you going with? One of the things to keep in mind is you’re paying per view, and most of the people who install these toolbars/adware to play games are middle aged moms, so that could explain the low click-through rate. Never count out split testing though, it’s just something to keep in mind. Also I just checked and the offer page is way off of the landing page, you need to try and bridge the gap more. I can see a couple angles that might’ve been better suited for the offer, like dining out, massages, or fitness classes perhaps. 11 clicks isn’t much at all to go off of, so it’s not surprising you haven’t seen a conversion yet. Hope this helps!
the film hangover comes to mind. Maybe put a video clip of some funny scene.
This has helped greatly, gobig. Really useful stuff and I think you’re right.
I’ve created 2 new landers taking the dining out angle and tried to make them more related to the offer page. The first actually uses some of the styles of the brand, whilst the second is more like a coupon. The second lander probably won’t get the best quality but will be interesting to see if it works. I’m going to rotate these and target dining and coupon URL’s.
If anyone has any feedback on these updated landers, I’d greatly appreciate it.
Should I add sounds? If so, what do you suggest?
PS – I’m running this with Lead Impact.
Gone live with the new angled landers and they are performing better. I’m rotating the 2 landers linked in the reply above.
284 views – $4.28 spent
1 conversion – 2.00 which is around $3.20
So I’m almost break even. Will keep it running and remove non-performing targets. But would really be handy to get my clickthrough rate up as that remains low.
Some things you should add:
Geo-ip script, something that says.. "Get 90% off Meals in London" or "Up to 90% Discounts for London Residents"
Use a countdown timer, create some urgency
Add an image or hero shot to your coupon style lp, seems like a lot of white space
Maybe use images of popular foods in the UK (Fish & Chips, Curries, Pub Food, Guiness, etc..) and not just generic restaurant foods
Add audio, split test a sexy lady voice vs. strong masculine voice, check out fiverr if you need to outsource
1 conversion – 2.00 which is around $3.20
9% conversion rate –> that is a great percentage right?
keep up the good work!
@harrypotter (great name!):
Yes – that is a great percentage. This feels like a possible winner.
I’ve removed some of the targets that weren’t converting and wasting money on, and my stats look like this so far today:
So in money terms that’s: $1.43 spent and $3.20 (2.00) revenue.
OK, so it’s profiting so now but $1.77 profit won’t make me rich. It’s time to scale and add a load more targets and pick out the converting ones.
Thanks for the feedback! I will add a countdown to my page. Out of the 2 existing pages, expectedly the ‘coupon’ one is converting much better, only 2 of the clickthroughs were from the other lander. So I’m going to roll with that one, and split test that with a countdown and audio.
I’ll link you guys through to them if you are interested in assessing.
All in all, I feel like this is a pretty good follow along. This is my first campaign where I’ve created my own lander so it’s interesting to go through the process of turning into something that’s going to make money.
I’ll keep you lot updated.
As 403flux suggested, I’ve added some landers to rotate with, so as of today I’m now running with these. I’ll be adding more with images and playing with background colors.
Below is an update of the last few day’s activities. I was excited on the 1st July as I finally felt like I was pushing towards good profit after adding more target URL’s, and could still see targets I was losing money on which I removed. However, I feel a bit deflated now as yesterday I saw a loss again and now today I’m currently sitting with 0 conversions.
Now, i’m stuck. Does anyone have suggestions on how to optimise this? Do I keep split-testing landers, add more URL’s or keywords to target or try different angles? Where do I go from here?
One thought I had was – should I be making pages more specific to the audiences of the sites I target? For example, make a Money Saving Expert ad branded like the site to promote the 90% Coupon. What are your thoughts?

If anyone’s interested in the targets that have been converting for me are:
Hey Richard, yeah if you have decent traffic volume from a few sites I would definitely try building out specific landing pages for each one. Seems like a good way to super-target your visitor and optimize further based on already promising URLs. It seems like a lot of work for such small volume, but if you get each one profitable, and build LPs for 5-10 URLs per day, it will add up. Meanwhile, keep testing new URLs with your general LP campaign…
